Who We Are

Ella Mallabone - Proprietor

Ella grew up in the world of horses, having started riding at a young age under the influence of her very horsey mother. When Ella was 11, her Mother rescued a pony who they named Merlin, together they spent a long time rehabilitating Merlin, and they still own him to this day, 23 years later. After many years of working as a groom, Ella decided to obtain the qualifications to back up her experience, so in her early 20’s she picked up an apprenticeship at riding school, gaining her NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Equine Management, and Land based business management Diploma. During her time at the riding school, she found a passion for confidence coaching, and using her experience in reschooling and dressage to pass on her knowledge in flatwork lessons. Ella eventually went on to become the Yard manager at the riding school and found herself falling naturally in to the role. In 2019, she decided to move on to opening her own business, offering pet & equine services, she picked up part time work at an Equine Retirement yard, where she eventually became the Manager. During her time as Manager at the Retirement yard she picked up a lot of knowledge about caring for elderly horses, and those with special requirements, and found her true calling. In the Autumn of 2023, Ella was given the opportunity to open up her own yard, and went on to open River View Equestrian in December of 2023.

Harry and Ella met in 2014, he was quickly pulled in to the life of “long suffering horsey partner”, although in the beginning he may of been a little unwilling… these days you can’t stop him from poo picking (believe it or not) and he shares a close bond with Ella’s horse Merlin. He can often be found as previously mentioned - poo picking, and also helping to turn out and bring in, filling nets, feeding the track liveries and doing general maintenance jobs. Harry also holds a special place in his heart for heavy horses, and has shown great skill in handling and working with the youngstock on the yard. Even though he helped to build the stables, his proudest achievements remain building our muck heap ramp and digging out one particularly muddy gate way that wouldn’t close! All jokes aside, Harry plays a huge role in the business, and his love for the horses is obvious to anyone.

Lucy W

Lucy is a third year vet student at Nottingham university and lives locally. She started her RVE journey loaning one of Ella’s ridden horses 3 days a week. She also did 2 weeks placement for university with us in the summer of 2025, and impressed us greatly with her work ethic and knowledge, she is super keen to learn more and gain more experience, and always willing to help. She now helps out regularly on Monday and Friday afternoons.

Lucy enjoys long hacks out locally, with our lovely Annie, and whilst she hasn’t yet chosen the path she wants to take with regards to equine, small or fam animals for her degree, the equine side remains a strong passions of hers and a very viable option for her.
